Lava Floors underfloor Heating mats are quick and easy to install, making them the ideal choice for your new electric underfloor heating system.

The mat has the cables set at the factory pre-set spacing, ensuring the heat is distributed evenly throughout the tiled floor.
The matting can be easily cut to fit any room and navigate around fixed obstacles, such as centre island-units etc.

These mats are suitable to be used directly under tiled floors, they can also be used for some carpets / vinyl and wooden floors providing that a layer of latex levelling compound has been applied to cover the cables first. We always recommend checking with the floor manufacturer too for compatibility first, (Do not install these mats directly beneath wooden floors).

Lava Floors Underfloor Heating Cables are ultra thin and only 3mm diameter, they are twin wire and earth screened.

Cables are securely attached to the 500mm wide nylon mesh which is fitted with high tack adhesive tapes to enable accurate positioning and fixing of the mats prior to tiling.

Installation and Advice:

Step 1:
To help you plan where to install your heating system it may be useful to sketch the layout of the room and mark the area to be heated. Ensure that the subfloor is prepared (smooth & flat) as required for the final floor finish.

Step 2:
Cut the fabric backing and bend the heating cable to fit the room layout.

Step 3:
Stick your system to the prepared sub floor. We recommend that you prime a concrete sub floor with an acrylic primer before you stick the mats down. Heat mats always work more efficiently when installed onto a tileable insulation board such as Jackoboard Plano, Premium XPS Boards (concrete substrates only) or Marmox Boards. Lava mats will achieve temperature quicker, and use significantly less electricity to maintain the desired temperature.

When laying the heat mat, install the floor probe (supplied with timerstat) equidistant between 2 heating cables. The heating cable should be tested prior to tiling.

Step 4: Some tilers prefer to tile directly over the heating mat, or apply a thin layer of tile adhesive or self-levelling compound over the system using a non toothed spreader to protect from damage.

Step 5:
Once the tile adhesive or self-levelling compound covering the heating mat has dried, apply flexible tile adhesive and tile.
